ok...  i admit it....
my backyard has run amok
and it's all my fault!!!

but i still have excuses......
three or so years ago....
a hard freeze in January toasted my
bougainvillea and two gorgeous
mandavillas....
then the plumbagos started growing sideways instead of up...
and the agapanthuses
  (aka: snail condos.....)
decided to encroach on the
star jasmine...
and the pink jasmine i thought was gone came up under the bedroom window shrub and used it as it's personal trellis....
... all of that could possibly been addressed but one day when i wasn't looking the bermuda grass in the 30 year old lawn decided it OWNED the yard! ...  and now it does since it has taken over all the planters!

i'm having to suck it up and bring in the big guns....

work starts on the 19th!
sod cutter day....
Day Two:
whoa...

i can't
even
imagine
this looking
good ever
again!

Day Three:
well...
we're just
about down
to
bare dirt...

obviously keeping the huge shrubs on the Miller Street side...
they do a fantastic job blocking the west sun & wind...
and the
hibiscus
has been
spared
as well!

Day Five:
ok!
we're happy now!!!

the strawberry tree
goes in on
Wednesday...

the planters are on me...
so that won't happen
right away...

but dirt planters
are better than
what i had before!

Saturday:
my tree!

whenever i lose a member of my family i plant something...

this tree is for
Mr. Chance...

Wednesday:
the tree was planted
today!

Chance's family
pose in front of our
tribute to him....

Mr. Chance's
memorial stone
finally gets it's resting place...

January 2011
the backyard ren-o continues...
Santa Maria Style Winds
have destroyed their
last market umbrella in
my backyard!

permanent shade structure
construction has started!

ok... we're soaked to the bone!
power washed the deck
and the fence...

didn't go all the way down to
bare wood tho...
if i had there would
have been no stopping...
it would be a week from now
and i'd be three houses down
still trying to make the
whole neighborhood match!

just did enuff so the
new contruction
wasn't such a huge contrast....

we are 99.99% done!
my contractor guy
Dennis Fenton
(same guy that did my bathrooms....)
is such a perfectionist
he wants to come back
and add more corbals
add more support lag bolts
but
i absolutely freakin' love it!

(but now maybe i need new furniture....
somebody Slap Me!)

September 2013
the planters have since been planted and the
bougins are happy...

Baby D is happy too!

(of course he is always happy!)

August 2014
well...

six of the Miller Street shrubs have been slowly dying over the past couple of years...

so now is the time to put them out of their misery...

five guys...
four have chain saws...
one is manning the clipper...

the noise is
unreal...!!!

...end of day one....
oh my!
...what have i done?
...end of day two....

well...

they did a fabulous
job!!!

20 years of leaves and weeds
are gone!!!

however...
privacy
is no more...

i see me bleeding more
$$$
for fencing
reallly
soon...
